I've been spending more time in spamadan lately and I've started seeing more and more people with this green aura (and bugs?) around them:

What is this from?

It's the effect you get when you drink from the Chalice of Corruption.

Thanks. I thought it may have been that but I didn't see anything on the Wiki about an aura with it. I guess drinking from it and then standing around Kamadan is the new "thing" to do.

It has been the new thing to do since 2006, when Factions was released

With in the Winds of Change content coming out, chances are it's the first time many newer players (post EotN starters) are paying much attention to all the side quests in factions.

Up until now most people probably just rushed through the campaign to start SCs and Elite Areas and do the vanquishes for the HoM to get ready for GW2, but as WoC has encouraged people to pay a bit more attention to Cantha, chances are there is alot of people discovering this for the first time. That's probably be why there might seem like there is more people doing it at the moment.
